Married Eloise Minkler of Ames, Iowa. Engaged in farming since 1920. Four children, Ruth (Mrs. R. E. Matson of near Ames), Dorothy, deceased, Robert and Marilyn. Held various township offices such as trustee, clerk and school board member. Member of the county board of education for 17 years. In 1934 and 1935 served on township and county AAA committees. Has been member of county Fair Association and county Farm Bureau board, American Legion and Izaak Walton League. Member of First Methodist church and served on official and financial boards. Served three terms in House of Representatives, elected to Senate 1956.
