Has one married son, John Junior, born Oct. 28, 1936, now serving in the army at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Engaged in farming, 1933. Township assessor nine years. Former president of the county board of education, Farm Bureau, and board of trustees of Methodist Church at Oskaloosa. Member of Masonic Lodge, Rotary Club, and Chamber of Commerce. Served in the House of Representatives in 56th, 57th, and 58th General Assemblies before moving to the Senate.
