Born on March 14, 1792. He was known as a respectable and practical businessman throughout his career. He was also a licensed preacher in the Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. Ripley spent two terms in the Virginia Legislature before moving to Iowa. He served in the 8th Legislative Assembly from Des Moines County. He was a delegate to the 1844 convention that formed the first constitution of Iowa. Mr. Ripley married Rachel Bennett and they had 12 children. He passed away on March 30, 1872. He was known as a moral, kind-hearted and charitable leader in his community.
