Born circa 1812 in Kentucky. He married Sarah Somers on November 10, 1835, in Galena, Daviess County, Illinois, where both Moss and Somers lived. In 1838, he lived in Jackson County, Iowa Territory, where he entered into service with the territorial militia. He was appointed postmaster of Bellevue, Jackson County, Iowa, on November 14, 1839. He also served as Jackson County’s third clerk of district court and as probate judge from 1839 to 1840. He represented Jackson County in the House of Representatives of the Fourth Legislative Assembly of the Iowa Territory from 1841 to 1842. Mr. Moss died October 4, 1843, in Bellevue after suddenly taking ill.
