Born on July 6, 1803, in Preston, New London, Connecticut. Mr. Leonard emigrated from Connecticut with his family in October 1838, and after a long and tedious journey of eight weeks they arrived Charleston (now Sabula), Iowa, on December 12, 1838. He was one of the prominent pioneers of Sabula, Jackson County, and was a member of the Territorial Legislature in 1844 representing Jackson County, but died before the close of that session.
