Born July 9, 1813, in Seskin, Ireland. He immigrated to the United States sometime before 1843, as he is recorded as marrying his wife, Rebecca Rawlings, on September 10 of that year in Clinton County, Iowa. Mr. Brophy went on to represent Clinton County in the House of Representatives of the Sixth Legislative Assembly of the Iowa Territory. He then continued west, moving to California; he died there in Butte County on December 25, 1866.
