Bellevue Jackson County Democrat. Born at Bellevue, Iowa, March 18, 1910. Attended Bellevue High School, University of Notre Dame, received B.A. and LL.B. degrees. Married Edna Schuster of Joliet, Ill., August 11, 1934. Two daughters, Mary Patricia and Mary Jeanne. Served as deputy collector of Internal Revenue in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids. Practiced law in Clinton, Bellevue, and also Casper, Wyo. Served in World War II and the Korean War. Catholic. Member of Iowa and Wyoming Bar, Knights of Columbus, and past commander of American Legion. First term in the house.
