Member and president of the West Branch community school board, member and president of the Cedar County board of education, mayor of West Branch. Member of the Masons and Consistory. Methodist. Served as state representative in the 45th, 45th extra, 46th, 46th extra, and speaker of the house of representatives 47th General Assembly.

Taught in the rural schools in central Illinois for three years, and came to Downey, Cedar county, Iowa, as principal of the Downey public school in 1919. Manager, Farmers Cooperative Elevator and Exchange at Centerdale four years. Has been engaged in farming since 1925. Married to Mary Thomason in 1920, and has five children, LaMar, Jr., Derrold, Doris Jean, Mary Jeanette and Audrey Fern. Member of the Masonic order and member of the M. E. church. Elected representative in 1932, in 1934 and 1936. Elected speaker of the house of representatives for the forty-seventh general assembly. A democrat.
