Had I been present, I would have voted "aye" on House File 540. CARROLL of Poweshiek BILLS SIGNED BY THE GOVERNOR A communication was received from the Governor announcing that on April 3, 1997, he approved and transmitted to the Secretary of State the following bills: Senate File 233, an act concerning eligible alternative retirement benefit systems for newly employed community college employees, and providing an applicability date. Senate File 272, an act relating to the implementation of certain assistance programs of the department of economic development. Senate File 292, an act relating to cooperative corporations, by providing for the transfer of stock, the allocation of patronage dividends upon termination of membership, and dissolution. Senate File 299, an act relating to cooperative associations and corporations by providing for operations and procedures, including providing for mergers, and providing an effective date. SPECIAL PRESENTATION Moreland of Wapello presented Nigel Mackey, Norma Mackey, Brenda Thompson, Errol Johnston, David Lawler, and Andrew Glascott, who were guests from Ireland accompanied by Lyn and Jim Williams, and Vicki and Dave Meyer. PRESENTATION OF VISITORS The Speaker announced that the following visitors were present in the House chamber: Forty-five 5th grade students from Cody Elementary School, Pleasant Valley, accompanied by Mrs. Sonja Vogel.
