  1  4 INCREASING THE EXCEPTIONS TO THE REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
  1  5    FOR POSTSECONDARY SCHOOLS, AND ELIMINATING AN EXEMPTION
  1  6    FOR NONDEGREE SPECIALTY VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS
  1  7    FROM THE ACCREDITATION REQUIREMENT FOR POSTSECONDARY
  1  8    SCHOOLS.

  1 10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
  1 11 
  1 12    Section 1.  Section 261B.3A, Code 1997, is amended to read
  1 13 as follows:
  1 14    261B.3A  REQUIREMENT.
  1 15    A school offering courses or programs of study leading to a
  1 16 degree in the state of Iowa shall be accredited by an agency
  1 17 or organization approved or recognized by the United States
  1 18 department of education or a successor agency and be approved
  1 19 for operation by the appropriate state agencies in all other
  1 20 states in which it operates or maintains a presence.  A school
  1 21 is exempt from this section if the programs offered by the
  1 22 school are limited to nondegree specialty vocational training
  1 23 programs.
  1 24    Sec. 2.  Section 261B.11, Code 1997, is amended by adding
  1 25 the following new subsection:
  1 26    NEW SUBSECTION.  11.  Postsecondary educational
  1 27 institutions offering programs limited to nondegree specialty
  1 28 vocational training programs.
