    celebration of the sesquicentennial anniversary of the Mormon pioneer
    exodus of 1846, with report of committee recommending passage, was taken
    up for consideration.

         Senator Black moved the adoption of Senate Resolution 110, which
    motion prevailed by a voice vote.



                               UNFINISHED BUSINESS

                            (Deferred March 25, 1996)

    House File 2458

         The Senate resumed consideration of House File 2458, a bill for  an
    act relating to the right to appointed counsel or a public defender, by
    relating to the eligibility for certain indigents, the recovery of
    defense costs, and by restricting the right to counsel for certain
    parents in child in need of assistance cases, deferred March 25, 1996.

         Senator Hansen offered amendment S-5419 filed by the committee on
    Judiciary on March 19, 1996, to page 2 of the bill.

         Senator Vilsack withdrew amendment S-5521 filed by him on Mrach 25,
    1996, to amendment S-5419.

         Senator Hansen moved the adoption of amendment S-5419, which motion
    prevailed by a voice vote.

         Senator Giannetto withdrew amendment S-5673 filed by him on April
    3, 1996, to pages 1, 2 and the title page of the bill.

         With the withdrawal of amendment S-5673, the Chair ruled amendments
    S-5681 and S-5682 filed by Senator Gronstal on April 8, 1996, to
    amendment S-5673, out of order.

         Senator Giannetto offered amendment S-5596 filed by him on March
    28, 1996, to page 6 of the bill and mobed its adoption.

         Amendment S-5596 was adopted by a voice vote.



                                LEAVE OF ABSENCE

         Leave of absence was granted as follows:

         Senator Halvorson until he returns on request of Senator Sorensen.
