Newton Guthrie
Warren County
Born in Montgomery, now Pulaski county, Virginia, March 16, 1822; His parents moved to Delaware county, Indiana, in 1835, where the subject of this sketch lived till 1847, when he located in this county, and entered the land that constitutes his present homestead of 280 acres. He has held all the offices that his township could impose upon him, and also that of county supervisor for several years. On September 21, 1857, he married Miss Fannie Truitt, of Ohio. Although Mr. Guthrie is known to be a man who does not seek office, he was elected a member of the legislature, Ninth General Assembly of Iowa, which position he filled with honor to himself and credit to the party that elected him.
