Christian Denlinger

Born in Pennsylvania, May 2, 1819, and died at the home of his son, Mr. William Denlinger Zwingle, Iowa, Thursday, March 7, 1901. He was married to Miss Ann Bughman of Adamsburg, March 27th, 1845. In the spring of 1854 he with his family of wife and four children moved to Iowa in company with Dr. I. S: Bigelow and Robert Kennedy, locating in Washington township, Dubuque county. He had the advantage of a liberal education. For several years he was a successful teacher and a part of that time he was principal of the Greensburg academy in Westmorland county, Penn. until he decided to move to Iowa. Mr. Denlinger was a member of the Iowa legislature, also a member of the board of supervisors. He joined the United Presbyterian church in his youth and remained in its fellowship until the time of his death. For a time after his removal to Iowa he was superintendent of Sunday school and teacher of a class. During last summer he attended the services of the Reform church, it being near his home. He would always take place in one of the Sunday school classes.
