Graduated from Rock- well-Swaledale High School. Received A.A. from A.A. and graduated cum laude from Buena Vista University with B.A. in human services and a minor in agency administration. Served as a Mason City Chamber of Commerce diplomat and served on Mason City Sesquicentennial Committee, Iowa Democratic Party State Central Committee, Mason City Sunrise Rotary Board of Directors, Kinney Pioneer Museum Board of Directors, secretary-treasurer of North Iowa Fund-Raising Professionals Association, vice president of Council of Social Agencies, and past member of Buena Vista University Alumni Association Board of Directors. Charter member and past vice president of Northern Lights Homeless Shelter. Past member of the Council of Social Ministries and Trinity Lutheran Church. Husband Jim; two children. Serving first term in the Senate.
