William E. Taylor
Decatur County
Born November 27, 1820, and died February 18, 1892. He was a farmer and stock raiser. He grew up while his father was in the midst of his struggles to rise in the world hence the son had practically no school advantages. But he afterwards made up for this by private study and self-culture. Reared on a farm, he adopted that as his permanent occupation, and has since followed it without interruption. On the 17th of November, 1842, he was married to Miss Maria Anderson, of Coshocton County, a daughter of Joshua Anderson, of that county. He followed farming in the county where he was reared until 1856, and then sold out and came West, settling in Decatur county, Iowa, where he improved a farm and lived for ten years. He was elected and served in the 8th Iowa General Assembly. Selling his farm there in 1866, he came to Chariton County, Missouri, where he bought land which was partially improved. On this he went to work, completing its improvements, and engaged in farming and stock raising, according to the progressive ideas and methods pursued in the North. Mr. Taylor was not only a farmer and stock man of whom the county has every reason to be proud, but he was a citizen, public-spirited and enterprising, of a class the county needs more of, and the more the better. As a neighbor and a friend he was highly esteemed. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor have five children. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor are members of the M. E. Church.
