Harvey W. English
Fremont County
Born in Clay County, Missouri. March 24th, 1825. Harvey English went to California in 1849. He married Lydia Jane Wheelock, daughter of Amasa Wheelock and Sophia Bensley, on January 21, 1858 at Fremont County, Iowa. Served as a Senator in the Iowa Legislature for the 8th and 9th General Assembly's 1860-1863. Departed for Montana and traveled across the plains arriving at Last Chance Gulch, June 18th, 1864. Harvey and Lydia lived in Helena, Lewis and Clark, Montana. Harvey W. English, was a miner and was a prominent Helena pioneer who served in the Territorial Legislative Assembly, Helena Member Council, Fifth Session, 1868-9; Sixth Session. 1869-70, as chairman of schools in 1867, as county sheriff from 1871 to 1873, and was later a municipal judge and police magistrate.
