Samuel Dale
Taylor County
Born in Woodford County, Ky., 1798. He spent four years of his early life serving an apprenticeship to the cabinet-maker's trade. It was in 1817 that, growing weary of working as an apprentice, he left his employer went to Noblesville, Hamilton County, Ind., where he engaged in, and successfully prosecuted, the business for himself. In 1821 he was united in marriage to Miss Artamissa Sample. Mrs. Dale died in 1836, and he married Miss Mary Messick, of Noblesville. During Samuel Dale's residence in Hamilton County, Ind., he was extensively engaged in farming, besides prosecuting his trade with good results; he was also honored with the office of Justice of the Peace for twelve years. In 1855 he moved to Taylor County, Iowa, and engaged in merchandising and farming. During the years 1857 and 1858 he served in the State senate as a representative for the senatorial district composed of Taylor, Page, Union, Fremont, Mills, Montgomery and Adams Counties. Samuel Dale was a good business man, and in politics was a Jacksonian Democrat.
