Born January 28, 1815, in Green County, Kentucky. He married Elizabeth R. Buckner on March 12, 1840. He was a Representative of Green County in the Kentucky Legislature from 1843 to 1844. From Lexington he moved to St. Louis, where he was a professor in the medical college of that place. He, with his family, afterward removed to Keokuk, Iowa. In 1856 he was president of the board of health for Keokuk and in 1857 was one of three politicians from the area speaking at the fair. He represented Lee County in the Senate in the Seventh General Assembly. From Keokuk they removed to Memphis, Tennessee, where he rapidly rose into distinction as a physician. He died in Memphis, November 30, 1877.
