Married Ruth Ryburn, of Heyworth, Ill., November 27, 1946. Five children: David, Robert, Patricia, Kathleen, and John. Member United Presbyterian Church. Graduated Newton High School, 1931; B.S., Iowa State University, 1937; post-graduate work, University of Illinois, 1941. Fraternities, Alpha Zeta, Sigma Upsilon. U.S.D.A. Farm Security Administration, supervisor, 1938-1940; Strawberry Point, Iowa, high school, 1941-1942; College Springs and Coin, Iowa, high schools, instructor vocational agriculture, 1946- 1949. Farm, Newton, Iowa since 1950. World War II, U. S. Marine Corps, 4th Tank Battalion; participated in battles for Roi Namur, Saipan, Tinian, Iwo Jima. Decorations: Letter of Commendation with Ribbon, Secretary of the Navy, 1945; Presidential Unit Citation, Saipan, 1944; Navy Unit Commendation, Iwo Jima, 1945; Major, U.S.M.C.R. Fifth session in senate.
