Robert M. Wilson was born on October 22, 1814, in Knox County, Ohio. In July 1840, he married Sophia Darling in Knox County, and together they had seven children. By 1850, the family had relocated to Mahaska County, Iowa. Following Sophia’s death in 1855, Robert married Rachel Finley, and they had two children. During the Civil War, he served as captain of Company D of the 22nd Iowa Infantry. A farmer, Wilson died on August 25, 1875.
