Francis Augustus Rodman
Clayton County
Born in Liepsig, Germany in 1829. He is believed to have immigrated to the United States in 1848. After living for a time in Cincinnati he moved to Iowa and was elected to the House of Representatives in 1856. He moved to St. Joseph, Missouri in 1858 to become the editor of the first German newspaper established in St. Joseph the Volksblatt, a Republican journal. The Forty-third Infantry, Missouri Volunteers, was organized in St. Joseph in June of 1864 with Francis Rodman as quartermaster. He was Missouri’s Secretary of State from 1865-1871. Mr. Rodman married Marie Magdalene Eberwine at Terre Haute, Indiana on October 12, 1852. They had 5 children. Mr. Rodman passed away on July 1, 1888, in Chicago, Illinois.
