Born February 25, 1800, in South Carolina, son of John and Margaret (Gillham) McDow, and died July 29, 1882, in Maxwell, California. Mr. McDow came to Harrisburg Township, Van Buren County, Iowa, from Illinois. He represented Van Buren County in the Sixth Iowa General Assembly, 1856-58. He married Esther Lofton, October 30, 1821.
