JOHN ROCKWELL

Mr. Speaker: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character, and public service of the late Honorable John Rockwell, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

John Rockwell was born July 31, 1911 at Wilmette, Illinois. He was a graduate of Lockridge High School and attended Iowa Wesleyan College. He married Eunice Monson in June, 1939, to which union were born four children.

Mr. Rockwell farmed for over fifty years in southern Henry County. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Farmer’s Union, the First United Methodist Church (serving on its Board of Trustees for several years), worked actively for the United Fund and the Mt. Pleasant Industrial Commission, served as a township trustee, as president of a rural school board and director of the Red Cross and Community Chest.

A Republican, Mr. Rockwell represented Henry County in the Fifty-eighth and Fifty-ninth General Assemblies.

He died April 28, 1982 and is survived by his wife, Eunice, and two sons and two daughters: John of Champlin, Minnesota, William of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Mary of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and Susan of Randolph, Vermont. Also surviving is his brother, Mathew Rockwell, of Winneta, Illinois.

Now Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventieth General Assembly of Iowa, That in the passing of the Honorable John Rockwell, the State has lost an honored citizen and a faithful and useful public servant, and the House by this Resolution would express its appreciation of his service.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House, and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
