Vail Crawford County Republican. Born on a farm near Loogootee, Ind., Aug. 24, 1910, son of Belden and Rosa Swayze Crane. Educated in the rural schools of Crawford County, graduated from Vail high school in 1927. Engaged in trucking and livestock farming. Served on Crawford County Board of Supervisors three years, local school board, 4-H leader, local fire association, active in Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, past director of Farm Bureau. Elder of Vail Presbyterian Church, past treasurer, and treasurer of church credit union. Married Bernice Algoe in January, 1934. Two daughters, Nelda Blair, Denison, Iowa; and Marlene Baughman, Gray, Iowa; and four grandchildren, Merle, Steven and David Blair, and Susan Baughman. Serving his first term.
