Mr. Speaker: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character, and public service of the late Honorable Harold F. Mueller, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Mr. Mueller was born on July 6, 1906 in Worth County, Iowa. He married Marcella Bergland of Hettinger, North Dakota on January 2, 1931. They had five children, four boys and a girl.

Mr. Mueller attended Manly High School and graduated from Iowa State College in 1929 with a degree in economics. He began farming in 1933 and was active in many farm groups. He was a member of the Farmers Union, chaired the Worth County Agricultural Adjustment Administration and Production Marketing Association, served as secretary and president of the Worth County Farm Bureau, and was a county committee member of the Farmers Home Administration. He served as director of the Worth County Cooperative Oil Company and Manly State Bank. Mr. Mueller served as treasurer of the Lincoln Township Schools. Other civic activities included the Theta Chi social fraternity, Elks Club, Izaak Walton League, Manly Community Club, and member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church.

Mr. Mueller was a member of the Democratic Party and served as State Representative for four terms, from 1959 to 1966.

Harold F. Mueller died on September 3, 1998 of heart failure. He is survived by his wife Marcella; and four children, Eugene of Manly; Ray of Evergreen, Colorado; Mary Griffith of Towson, Maryland; and Paul of Clive.

Now Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventy-eighth General Assembly of Iowa, That in the passing of the Honorable Harold F. Mueller, the State has lost an honored citizen and a faithful and useful public servant, and the House by this Resolution would express its appreciation of his service.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House, and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
