Served three consecutive terms as president of the Dubuque Trades and Labor Congress. Active in the credit union movement and in civic affairs, including six consecutive years as executive committee member of the Dubuque community chest. A member of Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters, Eagles lodge. He is a member of the budget and financial control committee, serving during the 55th and 56th sessions of the General Assembly.
