EARL C. RYAN

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable Earl C. Ryan, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Earl C. Ryan was born in Humeston, Wayne County, Iowa, on July 10, 1896, and passed away in Des Moines on May 17, 1953.

He was graduated from Humeston High School, the State University of Iowa and Drake University. In 1925 he was admitted to practice law.

Mr. Ryan married Miriam Piper of Des Moines, Iowa, December 27, 1925. To this union three daughters were born, all of whom survive him.

Mr. Ryan served as Assistant Secretary of the State of Iowa and was an attorney in the corporations and securities departments of the state from 1930 to 1942. From 1942 to 1946 he served as Assistant County Attorney of Polk County.

Mr. Ryan was a veteran of World War I.

He was a member of the Episcopal Church and several fraternal organizations.

He served as a member of the Iowa House of Representatives in the Fifty-fourth and Fifty-fifth sessions of the General Assembly.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-sixth General Assembly of Iowa: That in the passing of the Honorable Earl C. Ryan, the people of Polk County and of the entire State of Iowa have sustained a great loss and the House expresses its appreciation of his character and public service and tenders, by this resolution, it sincere and heartfelt sympathy to his beloved family in their great sorrow and loss.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
