HARRY WARD

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable Harry Ward, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Harry Ward was born June 8, 1882, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and passed away September 21, 1927, at the age of 74 years. He came to Davenport in 1907 to work on the Rock Island Arsenal.

He was married to Katie A. Berry on August 2, 1903, in LaCrosse. Mr. Ward was a former Davenport chief of police.

He served in the regular army in Alaska and was a retired brigadier general in the Iowa National Guard, a veteran of the Spanish-American War, Philippine Insurrection, World War I, and Mexican Border Incident.

His military decorations include the Philippine Campaign medal, Mexican Border service medal, Victory medal, World War I and 25-year medal Iowa National Guard.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Forty and Eight Club, Loyal Order of Moose, Red Men, Woodmen of the World, Uncle Sam’s 1-2-3 Boys and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Active in the Democratic party he was alderman at large from 1942 to 1944, and was Scott county State Representative in the Fifty-third session of the General Assembly.

He is survived by his wife, a son, John, and four daughters, Mrs. Thaletta Day, Mrs. Veronica Lindholm, Mrs. Mamie Johnson and Mrs. Lorraine Hasson.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-eighth General Assembly of Iowa: That in the passing of the Honorable Harry Ward the state has lost an honored citizen and a faithful and useful public servant, and the House, by this resolution, would express its sympathy to his wife and children.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House, and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
