GEORGE H. ROBB

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable George H. Robb, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

George H. Robb was born February 15, 1881, in Morris, Illinois. He came with his parents to Estherville, Iowa in 1893. He received his education in the Morris, Illinois and the Estherville, Iowa public schools. He also attended the Kankakee Commercial College at Kankakee, Illinois.

In 1902 Mr. Robb was married to Nellie R. Crim of Estherville. They had two children, J. Merrill and Maurine.

Mr. Robb farmed twenty-five years near Estherville, and for twenty years operated a livestock buying station and sales barn.

George Robb was known for his community service. He served thirteen years on the Estherville board of education, two years on the city council, and was mayor of Estherville. He was a charter member of the Emmet County Farm Bureau, and served as president of the Estherville Chamber of Commerce. He was active in the Methodist Church.

Mr. Robb was a prominent member of the Republican party. He served in the Fiftieth, Fiftieth Extra, Fifty-first, Fifty-second and Fifty-second Extra, and the Fifty-third sessions of the Iowa Legislature. He resigned as mayor of Estherville to accept appointment by Governor William S. Beardsley to the State Tax Commission in April, 1950. He was vice-chairman of the State Tax Commission at the time of his death.

Mr. Robb is survived by his wife and two children J. Merrill and Mrs. Evan Higgins, and five grandchildren all of Estherville.

George Robb died on October 27, 1951 at the age of 70.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-fifth General Assembly of Iowa, That in the passing of the Honorable George H. Robb the State has lost an honored citizen and a faithful, useful public servant and the House by this resolution, would express its appreciation of his service, and tender its sympathy to the members of his family.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
