Afton Union County Republican Born on a farm in Adair county, Iowa. Education received in the public schools in Casey, Iowa and later at Drake University. Married in 1909 to Ethel M. Alley of Greenfield, Iowa. Family consists of one daughter, Mrs. Lynn Parrott, and two sons, John, Jr., and Phillip, together with five grandchildren. Now resides on a farm in Union county, where he has lived for the past several years. Principal occupation has been farming, but he has been engaged in numerous community activities. Served as chairman of the soil conservation district, director of the Farm Bureau, director of the Farmers Co-operative and served in an official capacity in such government agencies as AAA, FSA and REA. Affiliated with Methodist Church. Serving first term.
