Joseph Oliver Landsness was born in Sioux Rapids on December 10, 1877. He passed away at his home February 9, 1958.

When a boy he moved, with his parents, onto the Landsness farm located southeast of Sioux Rapids. In 1907 he bought the Landsness farm, and the following year he was married to Bertha Smith. He spent a total of sixty-eight years on the farm.

He was active in church and community affairs.

He is survived by his widow, one son and one daughter; two brothers, one sister and six grandchildren.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-eighth General Assembly of Iowa: That in the passing of the Honorable Joseph Oliver Landsness, the state has lost an honored citizen and a faithful, useful public servant, and the House, by this resolution, would express its sympathy to his widow and the members of his family.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House, and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
