CHRIS F. HINRICHS

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable Chris F. Hinrichs, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Chris F. Hinrichs, son of Christian and Catherine Schlesselman Hinrichs, was born June 20, 1892, on a farm near Victor, Iowa, in Lincoln township, where he resided throughout his entire life. He was the youngest of eight children. He received his early education in Lutheran and public schools of Lincoln township. Mr. Hinrichs was actively engaged in livestock farming.

He was married on December 29, 1915, to Lizzie Wacker at Wilton Junction, Iowa. To this union were born seven children; two daughters and five sons.

Mr. Hinrichs was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lincoln township. He was a life member of the American Aberdeen Angus Breeders’ Association; also the state and county association and the Farm Bureau.

He was a Republican in politics. He was elected State Representative from Iowa county and served in the Fifty-second, Fifty-second Extra and Fifty-third Sessions of the Legislature.

Preceding him in death was a son, Christian Elbert, killed in action in Germany in World War II, April 12, 1945.

Surviving are his widow; four sons, Reinhold of Williamsburg, Iowa; Gerhard of Ft. Bliss, Texas; Edmund of Decatur, Illinois, and Bertrand at home; two daughters, Mr. Berniece Maas of Homestead, Iowa, and Mrs. Elizabeth Koehn of Victor, Iowa, and 10 grandchildren.

Mr. Hinrichs died of a heart attack January 11, 1952.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-fifth General Assembly of Iowa, That in the passing of the Honorable Chris F. Hinrichs, the people of Iowa county and of the entire state of Iowa have sustained a great loss and the House expresses its appreciation of his character and public service and tenders, by this resolution, its sincere and heartfelt sympathy to his beloved family in their great sorrow and loss.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
