EDWARD CAPESIUS

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable Edward Capesius, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Edward Capesius was born on a farm in Plymouth County, Iowa, February 12, 1885. He passed away at Algona, Iowa, October 16, 1953. His parents were Nicholas and Catherine Capesius.

He was educated in the public and Catholic schools and also the Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, Iowa.

He was married to Gertrude Cox in Los Angeles, California, on June 20, 1934. Mrs. Capesius preceded him in death.

Mr. Capesius was manager of a lumber yard two years, bank cashier twenty years, engaged in real estate, farm loans, and farm mangement ten years, and was a member and past president of the Kossuth County Real Estate Board, Iowa Real Estate Association and National Real Estate Board.

He was elected Representative from Kossuth County in 1945 and served in the Fifty-first session of the General Assembly. He was a Democrat in politics.

He was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church, a member of the Algona Chamber of Commerce and the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Capesius is survived by two brothers, William Capesius, St. Petersburg, Florida and Frank Capesius, Algona, Iowa.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representative of the Fifty­sixth General Assembly of Iowa: That in the passing of the Honorable Edward Capesius, the state has lost an honored citizen and a faithful, useful public servant, and the House, by this resolution, would express its appreciation of his service, and tender its sympathy to the members of his family.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
