JOHN J. KNIPPLING

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late John J. Knippling, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

John J. Knippling, one of ten children, was born October 14, 1885, at North Washington, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Knippling. He died April 20, 1953, at the age of 67 years in the Charles City Hospital. At the age of seven, he moved with his family from North Washington to a farm northeast of Elma, where he made his home. At the time of his death he was living with his brother, Edward.

He was a director of the Peoples Savings Bank in Elma for 25 years, president of the Howard County Equity Co-operative Association, president of the Maple Leaf Creamery, and at the time of his death was also a director of the Maple Leaf Creamery.

Mr. Knippling was elected Representative of Howard County in 1937 and served in the Forty-seventh, Forty-eighth, Forty-ninth, Fiftieth, and Fiftieth Extra sessions of the General Assembly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mrs. John McGee, and two brothers, Joseph and Bernard.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-sixth General Assembly of Iowa: That in the passing of the Honorable John J. Knippling, the state has lost a valued and honored citizen, and the House would tender its sincere sympathy to the surviving members of his family in their sorrow.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
