Waterloo Black Hawk County Republican. Born at Cedar Falls, Iowa, March 10, 1898, son of Henry N. and Naomi Butterfield. Attended rural school and graduated from the Iowa State Teachers College high school: attended I.S.T.C. two years. Worked with the Iowa State Highway Commission in engineering for five years. Married in 1924 to Florence Gonser of Dubuque, Iowa. Appointed assistant county engineer of Black Hawk county in 1926 and served until 1938. In life insurance business since 1938. A past commander of Becker-Chapman Post, American Legion; past chef-de-gare of the Forty and Eight: a member of the Masonic, Eastern Star and Elks lodges and a member of the Presbyterian church. Hobbies, legerdemain and fishing. Serving second term in the legislature.
