MAE A. LYNCH

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable Mae A. Lynch, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Mae A. Lynch was born in Ashton, Iowa, September 19, 1883, the daughter of Helen and Peter Fritz. She was reared in that vicinity, and following her graduation from Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls she came to Pocahontas where she served as principal of the junior high school.

In September, 1912, she was united in marriage with the late Thomas F. Lynch, a local attorney. Following his death in March, 1928, she studied law at the University of Iowa and was admitted to the Bar in 1932.

She was elected State Representative from Pocahontas County in November, 1942, and served in the Fiftieth, Fiftieth Extra and Fifty-first General Assemblies. She was the only woman ever elected from Pocahontas County to serve in the Iowa Legislature.

She was a member of the Phoenix Club and Sacred Heart Society and took an active part in community affairs.

Mrs. Lynch endured a long illness of three and one-half years, and passed away on June 3, 1953.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Kathryn Mabon, Mrs. Agnes Fitzgerald, a niece, Mrs. Constance Douglas, all of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and a nephew, Richard Shearer.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-sixth General Assembly of Iowa: That in the passing of the Honorable Mae A. Lynch, the state has lost an honored citizen and a faithful, useful public servant, and the House, by this resolution, would express its appreciation of her service, and tender its sympathy to her sisters and the members of her family.

Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.

EARL L. CHAMBERS,

WENDELL PENDLETON,

EDWARD OPPEDAHL,

Committee.
