JACOB FREDERICK MILLER
MR. PRESIDENT: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life and public service of the late Honorable J. F. Miller, submits the following report:
Jacob Frederick Miller was born at Chatsworth, Illinois, August 5, 1887, and died June 19, 1953. When nine years old his parents moved on a farm in Franklin County, Iowa, where he grew to manhood and was educated in the Franklin county schools. He taught school, specializing in manual training at Valparaiso University, and also attended Iowa State Teachers College. He became manager of the Farmers’ Cooperative Association at Latimer, Iowa, in February, 1913. In 1919 he purchased a grain and feed business in Humboldt. He was married June 4, 1913, to Miss Gayle Tilton of Humboldt. To this union were born two children, a son, Wayne, and a daughter, Arlene. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He was very active in church and school work, serving fifteen years as a member of the Humboldt board of education. He was also a member of the Rotary Club.
Mr. Miller was elected to, and served in the Iowa House of Representatives during the Forty-eighth, Forty-ninth, Fiftieth, Fiftieth Extra, and the Fifty-first General Assemblies, and served the Fifieth district in the Senate during the Fifty-second session.
Therefore, Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Fifty-sixth General Assembly: That in the passing of the Honorable J. F. Miller, the state has lost one who has always been very active in public affairs and kept interested and well informed on political matters, and the Senate tenders by this resolution its sincere sympathy to the surviving members of the family in their sorrow.
Be It Further Resolved: That a copy of this resolution be spread on the Journal of the Senate, and that the Secretary of the Senate be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the members of the family of the deceased.
