HARRY E. WEICHMAN

MR. PRESIDENT: Your committee appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable Harry E. Weichman begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Harry E. Weichman was born on a farm near Newhall, Benton County, Iowa on April 28, 1892. He attended business college in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and on September 30, 1914 was married to Elizabeth Meyer, who preceded him in death. Mr. Weichman married Marvel Hodge Pepmeyer on January 5, 1970.

A lifelong resident of Newhall, Harry Weichman was a farmer and real estate broker. For a period of six years he served as the director of Newhall Consolidated Schools, and was a charter member of the Benton County Farm Bureau.

Mr. Weichman was active in numerous community organizations and projects. He was the president of the local Chamber of Commerce, president of the Newhall Parent-Teacher Association, chairman of the regional U.S.O. drive, member of the County Fair Board, school director and member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall.

Mr. Weichman was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 1937 and served as a member of that body until 1954.

Harry Weichman died at the age of 86 on June 5, 1978. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Herbert F. and David E. of Newhall; a brother, Victor D. of Newhall; two sisters, Irene Kelly of Cedar Rapids and Madeline Gluesing of Newhall; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Now Therefore, Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Sixty-seventh General Assembly of Iowa, That in the passing of the Honorable Harry E. Weichman, the state has lost an honored citizen and a faithful and useful public servant; and that the Senate, by this Resolution, expresses its appreciation for his service to his community, state and nation and tenders its sympathy and sincerest regard to the members of his family; and

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the Journal of the Senate and that the Secretary of the Senate be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
