Mr. Hamilton offered the following resolutions:

Resolved, That the Senate has heard with profound regret, the death of the Hon. John G. Shields, late a member of this body, from the county of Dubuque.

Resolved, That in his death, the Senate has lost a useful and valuable member; and at a time when his services were particularly needed. Taken away in the prime of life, and in the midst of his usefulness, the remembrance of his past services, and of his uniform kindness of demeanor, and of his habitual honesty and integrity, will be long and affectionately remembered by us.

Resolved, That in view of this saddening event, the members of the Senate will wear the usual badge of mourning, during the session.
