Born in New Jersey on October 11, 1801, and died at his brother's home February 11, 1857 in Huntingdon county, Pennsylvania. His grandfather, John Park, came from the north of Ireland and settled in Pennsylvania a short time prior to the Revolutionary war, in which he and his son John served as members of the patriot army, one of them holding the rank of lieutenant. Mr. Park leaving the ancestral home in Pennsylvania removed westward to Iowa in 1835. He married Jane Johnston (1803-1886) in 1826. They had nine children. The family lived in Walnut Township, Jefferson County. In 1853 and 1855 he served as a Senator in the Iowa General Assembly. He was elected as a Whig.
