Willet Dorland
Henry County
Willet Dorland was born July 1822 in Dutchess County, New York. He and his wife Abigail Bedell were married in 1842 in Beekman, New York. They removed to Salem, Henry County, Iowa, to farm in 1844. They had six children: Barclay, Chester, Artilissa, Charles, Mary, and Willet Samuel Jr. In 1860, the family moved into town where Willet Dorland became a successful merchant. The family removed to Chicago, Illinois, in 1863 where Mr. Dorland was a real estate agent. By 1888 he had returned to farming and had moved to Whittier, California. He died there October 22, 1899.
