Robert Paxton Creel
Lee County
Born in Adair County, Kentucky, November 17, 1815 and was a resident of Illinois for a short time before coming to Iowa in 1836. He located at West Point in this county and in1840 was married to Mary A. Patterson. In 1846 they removed to Keokuk. In 1848 and again in 1850 he was elected a member of the city council, and in 1854 represented Lee County in the house of representatives of the general assembly. In 1862 he was elected mayor of Keokuk and in 1872 sheriff of Lee County. Mr. Creel was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
