Born December 29, 1808 in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. His early life was spent in different cities in New York. In 1838 he removed to Lee County, Iowa and located in Pleasant Ridge Township where he resided for eight years. He was a harness manufacturer and saddler. In 1845 he removed to Fort Madison where he resided until the time of his death. Mr. Thurston was a prominent and active member of the Baptist Church. He was elected to represent Lee County in the Fifth and Sixth General Assemblies, 1854-1856. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
