Born in Shrewsbury, Worcester, Massachusetts on August 5, 1806, and died at Keokuk, Iowa, July 9, 1865. He was graduated at Union College in 1829 and practiced law in Worcester, Mass., a few years, then removed to Alton, Ill., and finally settled in Iowa. He married Ann-Marie Peck on November 24, 1831 on Worcester, Massachusetts. The 5th Iowa General Assembly regular session adjourned January 26, 1855. An extra session convened July 2, 1856; which adjourned on the 16th of July. At the extra session David T. Brigham took the place of James M. Love of Lee County; James M. Love having been appointed Judge of the United States District Court. David T. Brigham was also elected to the 6th and 7th General Assemblies. The Seventh General Assembly was a strong and thoroughly representative body. Among the best known hold-over senators were David T. Brigham, of Lee and Van Buren, remembered as one of the commissioners to investigate the Des Moines Navigation Company.
