WILLIAM H. HOLMES who died in Neligh, Nebraska, on the 13th of December, was for many years a prominent state official in Iowa. He was a native of the state of New York where he was born in 1828. He came to Iowa in 1851, settling on a farm near Wyoming, Jones County. In 1861 he was elected to the State Senate for the full termoffour years. Upon the organization of the Senate, in 1862, he was made chairman of the committee of Ways and Means. At the next election he was chosen State Treasurer, and re-elected, serving four years. In 1861 he was one of the Trustees of the State Agricultural College, and President of the Board. He removed to Nebraska many years ago.
