Delaware County Republican. Born on a farm near Conrad, Iowa, September 12, 1882. Educated in rural schools, and graduated from Conrad high school in 1902. Finished a horticultural course, Iowa State College, Ames, in 1907. From 1907-1909, was Y.M.C.A. secretary at Valparaiso (Indiana) University. From 1909-1911 he pursued a theological course in Garrett Biblical Institute, and took work in Northwestern University. Began Methodist ministry in Chicago. Married in 1911 to Myrtie Person of Sibley, Iowa. Following marriage served as missionary in Pachuca, Mexico. Returned to Iowa in 1914 and continued in the ministry until the present. Served as Y.M.C.A. secretary, Iowa State College, during the World War, and as religious work secretary in Camp Dodge. Has two sons, Lynn and Raymond. Member of the Masonic lodge, the Royal Arch Masons, and the Order of Eastern Star. Serving second term in the legislature.
