JOHN G. ODDEN

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable John G. Odden, begs to submit the following memorial:

John G. Odden was born on a farm in Winnebago County, December 11, 1878, and died January 12, 1953, at the age of 74 years. He was the son of Karen and Aanon J. Odden. He attended school in Lake Mills, Iowa, and later attended St. Ansgar seminary. Subsequently he moved to North Dakota, where he served for six years as a County Auditor before he returned to Lake Mills.

On August 19, 1926, he was married to Anna Johnson at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. The couple moved to Forest City that year, following Mr. Odden’s election to the office of County Treasurer, and remained there for the next 10 years, as long as he held that post.

In 1936 he was elected State Representative from Winnebago County, and served in the Forty-seventh and Forty-eighth sessions of the General Assembly. For seven years before his retirement three years ago, he served as a state tax collector.

Mr. Odden was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his widow, his mother Mrs. J. A. Odden, who lives south of Lake Mills, and three brothers.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-fifth General Assembly of Iowa, That in the passing of the Honorable John G. Odden, the State has lost an honored citizen and a faithful, useful public servant, and the House, by this resolution, would express its appreciation of his service, and tender its sympathy to the members of his family.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.

THEO KLEMESRUD,

ARCH W. MCFARLANE,

G. T. KUESTER,

Committee.
