Representative from Delaware county, was born on a farm near Conrad, Grundy county, Iowa, September 12, 1882. Educated in rural schools, and graduated from Conrad high school in 1902. Graduated in 1907 from the agricultural course, Iowa State College, Ames, majoring in Horticulture. From 1907-1909, was Y. M. C. A. secretary in Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Indiana. From 1909-1911 he pursued theological course in Garrett Biblical Institute, Evanston, Illinois, and took special work in Northwestern University. Began Methodist ministry by serving as pastor in Chicago. Was married in 1911 to Myrtie Person of Sibley, Iowa. Following marriage served as missionary in Pachuca, Mexico, under Board of Foreign Missions of Methodist church. Returned to Iowa in 1914 and continued in the ministry until the present time. Served as head Y. M. C. A. secretary at Iowa State College during the World war, and as religious work secretary in Camp Dodge; holds numerous positions in the Methodist annual conference. Has two sons, Lynn and Raymond. Member of the Masonic lodge, and the grand lodge speaker's bureau; the Royal Arch Mason, and the Order of Eastern Star. Hobby is gladiolus and farming. Serving first term in the legislature. A republican.
