ERIC W. SCOTT

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character and public service of the late Honorable Eric W. Scott, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Eric W. Scott was born in Prussia February 14, 1880. He was the son of Simon and Anna Kruser Scott. He came with his parents to America in the year 1881. They settled on a farm two miles northwest of Wall Lake, Iowa, and a year later moved to a farm north of Lake View.

He was united in marriage to Mary Lenora Quinlan on April 15, 1903, who preceded him in death in February of 1947. To this union were born two sons, Everett E. of Lake View and Lloyd W. of Pocahontas, Iowa.

Mr. Scott was a member of the Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Shrine and the Commandery. He was State Representative from Sac County from 1936 to 1942, serving in the Forty-seventh, Forty-eighth, Forty-ninth and Fiftieth sessions of the General Assembly.

Through the years he farmed extensively; was owner and operator of the Scott Grain Company; was president of the Farmers State Bank and manager of the Union Telephone Company.

On February 3, 1948, he was married to Martha Batie Hawthorne. He died October 31, 1952, at Loring hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; two sons, Everett of Lake View, Iowa, and Lloyd, of Pocahontas; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Robert Carlson of Duncan, Oklahoma; a stepson, Batie Hawthorne, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and several grandchildren.

Mr. Scott was generous and kind. Through the years he helped many in an advisory capacity and with financial aid.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Fifty-fifth General Assembly of Iowa, That, in the passing of the Honorable Eric W. Scott, the state has lost a valuable and honored citizen and the House expresses its appreciation of his character and public service and tenders, by this resolution, its sincere and heartfelt sympathy to his beloved family in their great sorrow and loss.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
