HONORABLE A. W. WOLF

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee appointed to prepare resolutions commemorating the life, character, and public services of the Honorable A. W. Wolf of Franklin county, Iowa, begs leave to submit the following:

A. W. Wolf was born in Mott township, Franklin county, Iowa, on October 9, 1875. He died at his home in Hampton, Iowa, on June 2 1938. Mr. Wolf resided with his parents, pioneer residents of Mott township, until he grew to manhood and engaged in business for himself. For a time he operated a farm east of Hampton, Iowa, and later engaged in commercial ventures. He was a large stockholder in the Sheffield Brick and Tile Company and for a time acted as plant superintendent. During recent years he was district field representative for the federal debt advisory administration and assisted in bringing about settlements for depressed farmers in the north Iowa territory which he covered.

Mr. Wolf was a member of the city council in Hampton for several years, and was then elected mayor and served four years. He also served as acting postmaster in Hampton for nearly two years under the President Woodrow Wilson administration.

In politics, Mr. Wolf was a democrat and in 1932 he was elected to represent Franklin county in the State Legislature, the first democrat ever elected to that office in this county. He served the county well in that capacity, as he did in all of the other places of trust to which he had been chosen.

Art Wolf was a high type citizen, clean and honorable in all of his dealings with his fellowman and always an advocate of the better things of life. He was a member of the Masonic lodge in all of its branches, including the Shrine, and also a member of the Hampton Rotary club. He was affiliated with the Christian Science Society.

Mr. Wolf was married to Miss Allie Cummings on February 28, 1906, and she with one son, A. Walter Wolf, are left to survive.

Therefore, Be It Rcsolved, That in the passing of the Honorable A. W. Wolf, the state has lost a valuable and honored citizen and the House would tender, by this resolution, its sincere sympathy to the surviving members of his family in their sorrow, and

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House, and that the Chief Clerk be instructed to send an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
